Guillaume Philibert is the founder and creative director of Filling Pieces, so he is the architect of the style -quite literally, as his background in architecture reinforces his unmatched aesthetic.

 

I was admiring Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, etc. I just couldn’t afford it as a student. I was wearing a lot of Nike, Adidas, more sportswear-related footwear, and I felt like: I need to bridge that gap between those two segments.

The brand name explains its philosophy; the pieces aim to fill the gap between feelings and material, functionality and style, luxury and sportswear. All the designs intend to mix the best of two worlds: youth perspective of sportswear and top-tier luxury quality.

Filling Pieces results from a joint family effort based on spirit, which preserves the genuine feeling behind the designs and the starting idea. That is precisely how it achieved instant success right after the first order, and it only grew more prominent from that point onwards. They set sail from the canals of the Netherlands and spread all around the world.

The crew behind Filling Pieces has a very personal story to tell, and they chose fashion as the medium. They wanted to express their opinions and live their dreams. They wanted to show the world that you can be anything that you wish to be if you set your mind and work hard for it. Most importantly, they proved that even if society fails you and mistreats you, you can overcome the hard days and turn this haunting past into a powerful voice. Fashion is a potent tool, available to everyone regardless of their background, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, or age.

After ten years in the business, the creative mind behind the brand has decided to transform the brand from a footwear company to a complete fashion brand. Paris Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2020 was the debut of this new path. Filling Pieces has expanded the storytelling instruments and completed the narrative, thus fortifying the story behind it. They once again dared to challenge the norms that society had set before them.

Their new collections also have the goal of being as sustainable as possible. With the help of new material technology, they are pushing the limits of physical probabilities. They pursue the transformation of the fashion industry in every sub-sector that they have a presence in. They are the young, rebel spirit. They may just be the trigger for change that we have been waiting for.

 

Along the way, they also faced many obstacles. One design, for example, created controversy because of the ripped fabric and caused a loss of trust towards the brand. However, the humble and fresh brand accepted this wrongdoing, learned, and moved forward from this mistake to a better future.
